True story....my maiden name is Dinkel. Had to use it. Ink is what I do.
This is a picture of my father, "Dink". When I was about five years old, I attended Sunday School at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Superior, Wisconsin. One Sunday the teacher went around the room and asked each of us our father's name. All I knew was that my father's name was Dink, after all that's what my mom, grandparents, friends, etc. called him! Even at that young age, I knew better than to tell the entire class my dad's name was Dink. It was a preview of things to come throughout school as the teacher called out Jill Dinkel during roll call, and the subsequent snickers at this strange and perhaps slightly naughty name! Back to Sunday School...I told the class my dad's name was Gene, as in Gene Starkey, the sheriff who lived upstairs in our duplex. I wonder what the teacher thought, she had to know my father after all!!
Oh, the guilt. And I was a Lutheran! So at the supper table that night, I fessed up to my folks about the lie I told in Sunday School. They asked why I didn't just tell them dad's name and my reply was that I didn't want to say "Dink". Laughter, then the realization that my dad's name was Phillip all along. Below is his handsome picture, Mr. Phillip Allen Dinkel, aka "Dink"! Bless his heart - May 17, 1933 - February 19, 1985.
DinkelInks - perfect.
