Madden's on Gull Lake - Brainerd, Minnesota

I just spent the past weekend "up north" at Madden's on Gull Lake in beautiful Brainerd, Minnesota!  Those who live in or are familiar with Minnesota know this is a very classic (and classy) historical resort that is very popular for meetings, family reunions, golf groups, weddings, and anyone looking for a relaxing OR active getaway.  You will find opportunities abound for both here!  In a nutshell, what really stood out:

• The family who owns and manages Madden's
• They are beyond gracious hosts, with their top priority being the enjoyment of their guests.  It shows.  You will be wrapped in their hospitality from the moment you arrive.  Brian, the second generation owner, is a walking encyclopedia on the history of the resort and the Brainerd area.  We were treated to a fireside chat, and the group agreed we could have listened to him tell stories all night.  Ben and Abbie are his children, affectionately referred to as the third generation.  They too are passionate about their guests and their warm presence is felt throughout the resort.

• The Food
• Chef Bob really knows how to run the kitchens!  Everything was amazing!  The Chicken Wild Rice Soup is second to none.  The steak?  Think Manny's.

• The Meeting Space 
• Lots of it, with every kind of configuration you can think of to make your attendees happy!  Some look out over the lake, with stunning views, and curtains if you really need to concentrate.  Everything you need in order to hold a great meeting is here, from the drop down screens, to the built in projectors, and the comp wi-fi throughout.  There isn't anything that's been left out.

• Golf
• Four courses, including The Classic, where sand for the traps is shipped in from Ohio.  It's all in the details.....

• Trap Shooting
• My shoulder is back to its normal color, thank you!  We shot a box of 25 shells each and it was great fun!  What a great activity, especially for those who haven't handled a shotgun before.  The young man who took us out was as patient as the day is long, and had every one of us hitting a clay pigeon before all was done, including the first-timers!

• Other Activities
• Croquet, Tennis, Lawn Bowling, Fishing, Swimming, Boating, Pontoons, Relaxation...it's all there.  Ask about the team building activities the resort can facilitate for you.

• The Up-North Experience
• This is truly an experience, not just another resort to hold a meeting.  You and your attendees will remember this visit long after they depart.  There is nothing like the serenity of the north woods, especially one where all of your needs will be met with true "Up-North" hospitality!!
